Welcome to a New Dental Care Experience

New Patient Experience

If you’re new to Lawrenceville Smiles, you may be a little nervous about what to expect. We get it – going to the dentist can make people anxious, especially if you need extensive work.

That said, we want to put your mind at ease. On the first phone call, we’ll learn a little bit about you, tell you a little bit about us, and send you a new patient welcome packet to exchange some additional information.

Before you come in for a visit, we’ll remind you of your appointment. When you walk into our office, we try to help you leave your nerves at the door. Though we offer a high level of dental care and precise attention to detail, we do so in a relaxed, down-to-earth environment. We want you to feel welcome.

Your First Visit

Typically, new patients will first meet with Dr. Scalia. However, at times new patients who are in need of only a simple cleaning and checkup will be seen first by Judy, our hygienist.

When you see Dr. Scalia first, you will spend time getting to know each other. One of the most important questions Dr. Scalia will ask you is: “What is it you would like us to do for you?”

Share your hopes, fears, and questions because we want to create the smile of your dreams!

The Steps to Get You Started

    1. Dr. Scalia and his team will perform an examination and gather all the necessary information to determine treatment options. This may also mean making impressions of your teeth and taking x-rays and photographs. He will use this information to create customized treatment plans for you, based on your needs and desires.
  1. In many cases, Dr. Scalia will have you return for a consultation visit. You will sit down together (along with a significant other, if you prefer) to review four key things:
    • What he found during your exam
    • What custom, ethical treatment options he’s created for you
    • The timing and costs of each option
    • Answer any questions you may have
  2. At this point, what you choose to do is up to you. Dr. Scalia feels his first job is to demonstrate to you that he understands your dental condition, how you got to this point, and what you might do about it. It is then up to you to hire him again to move on to his second job — delivering the treatment option you choose. You may see Judy, our hygienist, first. She’ll get to know you a bit (and vice versa) while reviewing your medical history. She will also:
    • Take any necessary x-rays
    • Provide an oral cancer exam
    • Assess gum health
    • Discuss oral hygiene
    • Teach you effective cleaning techniques
    • Review your at-home care regimen
  3. You will then likely have a basic cleaning and a fluoride treatment. Dr. Scalia will also come in to meet you and perform a dental examination. When you leave this appointment you should feel like you have had a great cleaning and a very through examination.

Amenities and Comforts

When you’re in one of our computerized treatment rooms, we are entirely focused on you – your treatment, your needs, and your comfort.

Here at Lawrenceville Smiles, we always follow a stress reduction protocol. We’ll take the time to talk about your dental condition in as much or as little detail as you’d like. When in the office for dental treatment, we’ll show you a stop signal – think of it as a secret handshake – in case you need the work to stop at any time. We’ll even give you a stress ball so you can squeeze away some nerves. And of course, should you desire, we can wrap you in comfort with cozy blankets and neck pillows.

Payment Options and Insurances

We will help you plan your treatment, offer options that fit your budget, and answer all your questions. And though our practice is fee-for-service, which means we aren’t in insurance companies’ networks, we will submit insurance claims to your insurance company for you electronically to maximize benefits. We also work with CareCredit and LendingClub to help finance any dental care you may need.
