Whether you need a simple filling or complete dental restoration, everyone at Lawrenceville Smiles will treat you with respect, handle you with care, and make sure everything is completed to perfection.
As a prosthodontist, Dr. Scalia brings a high level of training, skill, and attention to detail to your restorative dentistry needs. If you have extensive dental issues, we can return your mouth to full function. In order to do this, we provide a full range of reconstructive services, including inlays and onlays, crowns, bridges, implants, and dentures. Dr. Scalia will design a dental restoration treatment plan to create a beautiful, natural-looking smile so you can both look and feel your best.
Part of our job at Lawrenceville Smiles is to make sure you visit for regular hygiene appointments and provide you with valuable education so you can follow the best hygiene routine at home. We prefer to prevent cavities, but when tooth decay sets in, we can treat cavities with tooth-colored composite fillings. The composite material blends with your natural tooth color, so unlike traditional fillings, you won’t see the gleam of metal – just a shining, healthy smile.
If you have tooth decay that’s too widespread for a filling (more than half the tooth’s biting surface) or in a location that makes treatment with a filling impossible or less predictable, Dr. Scalia can restore your smile with inlays or onlays. Depending on your individual needs, we use inlays and onlays made of porcelain, gold, or tooth-colored composite. Over the course of two appointments, we’ll prepare the area, take an impression of the tooth, and apply a temporary inlay/onlay.
At your second appointment, we’ll cement or bond the permanent inlay or onlay in place and then polish and smooth to a perfect finish. Not only can inlays and onlays improve the appearance of your smile, but they also rebuild broken or decayed teeth. Once in place, when well maintained, inlays and onlays can last more than 20 years. That’s quite a bit of smile time.
If you need dentures but are worried that false teeth won’t look or feel natural, Dr. Scalia and our team at Lawrenceville Smiles are ready to help. We’ll take the time, over several appointments, to ensure your full dentures are fitted and placed properly so they look and feel like your natural teeth. We may recommend implant-retained dentures, in which case we’ll place two to four implants and then clip the denture onto the implants for additional support.
We also offer very well-fitting and stable partial dentures. Partial dentures can replace one or more teeth, and, when made well, can be very comfortable and stable. They’re attached to existing, healthy teeth with metal clasps and require removal at night for cleaning of the gums. Please note that these metal clasps can typically be hidden from view, using special techniques, giving you more confidence when you do flash your new smile.
Whether you’re a candidate for full dentures or partials, Dr. Scalia will devote his care and expertise to making sure you’re happy with your treatment results. When you make Dr. Scalia responsible for restoring your mouth to full function, you’ll soon be happily chewing, chatting, and smiling.
Prior to a crown or bridge placement, crown lengthening may be necessary. This important procedure is designed to remove gum tissue to expose more of the tooth structure to aid in the placement of the crown or bridge for a more secure hold. It’s an effective way to ensure your crown or bridge is anchored properly. Crown lengthening is also used for esthetic purposes, for example, to help eliminate a gummy smile.
Whether you’re missing one or more teeth, dental implants may be a strong solution for you. Dr. Scalia specializes in the placement of implants to restore your dental health and appearance. Depending on your restoration needs, Dr. Scalia will place single or multiple implants to provide a stable foundation for a crown, bridge, or a denture. With the support of implants, your restoration will be very stable and keep you smiling for years.

“Just completed my semi-annual checkup. I have been going to Lawrenceville Smiles for a while now and have always been happy with their service. Judy, their dental hygienist, is outstanding. Dr. Scalia is very personable and thorough. Between them both, I have always felt that I was getting the best care.”
Going to a new dentist can be anxiety-provoking, but you can leave your worries at the door! I stepped into the office and was immediately greeted by a very friendly and professional staff. Dr. Scalia was great. He is personable, caring, and compassionate. His knowledge and enthusiasm for his profession are evident. It was a pleasant experience and I highly recommended it.
On my first visit, the staff quickly made me feel comfortable and relaxed. After my x-rays were taken, Judy did a great job cleaning my teeth which was a challenge after delaying care due to the pandemic. Dr. Scalia then did his exam, taking time to explain all options of care. I highly recommend it.
I have been a patient of Dr. Scalia at Lawrenceville Smiles since its inception. The quality of work is exceptional and the services are performed in a warm and friendly manner. From the front desk support of Kim and Lynn to thorough cleanings provided by the hygienist Judy, to sitting in the chair with Dr. Scalia performing a procedure, examination, or consultation I always leave a happy and satisfied patient.
Dr. Scalia is an excellent dentist. I happen to be very fearful of needles. Dr. Scalia always takes the time to make me feel comfortable and put me at ease. He has a terrific bedside manner and pays close attention to detail. I definitely would recommend him, especially, if you are a little hesitant about visiting the dentist. He does great work. I think he’s awesome!!!!
“I cannot say enough good things about each and everyone at Lawrenceville Smiles! I am, by all accounts, a very anxious and difficult patient. As a result, I’ve been lax with my dental care. From my first phone call through each visit, Dr. Scalia and every other remember of the practice treated me with kindness, care, and most importantly, excellent dentistry. For the first time in my 65 years, I am happy and comfortable with my dental care in their hands.”
